SCHOOLS SELECTIONS ANNOUNCED FOR ‘SPEC' AFTER WEEKS OF INTENSIVE AUDITIONS ACROSS NSW -

Schools Spectacular is proud to announce that 426 schools, 72 of which are new to ‘Spec' this year, have been selected to take part in what is regarded as Australia's most popular annual variety show.

Participating schools represent the entire state of NSW, from Avalon, Bondi Beach and Caringbah in Sydney all the way to Cobar, Nyngan and Oaklands in the far west of the state. Schools may be represented by large groups of students or even a single student representing their school in a local area or state ensemble.

2016 marks the largest event in the 33-year history of this popular extravaganza, to be held on 25 & 26 November at its brand new home, QUDOS BANK ARENA, Sydney Olympic Park.

To mark the move to Western Sydney this year's Schools Spectacular will feature a 2,700-strong choir; 2,300 dancers; an 80-piece symphony orchestra; a world-class stage band; and a huge number of outstanding solo performers (known as Featured Artists).

Students from metropolitan, rural and remote regions of NSW, from varying ages, cultures, skills and socio-economic backgrounds will all be showcased.

Sonja Sjolander, Schools Spectacular's Creative Director, said the standard of this year's auditions was outstanding.

"I have never experienced anything like this year's auditions," Ms Sjolander said.

"I am totally in awe of the talent we have in NSW public schools.

"With the largest ever number of applications received for Spec, there is no shortage of incredible young artists ready to strut their stuff on the big stage.

"It's terribly exciting to think just how spectacular this year's show is going to be when all of that talent comes together in November.

"I already have goosebumps!"

Hundreds of Schools Spectacular participants over the years have gone on to become professional musicians, singers, dancers, designers, producers and musical directors.  Recent alumni are currently performing in premier productions such as Kinky Boots and We Will Rock You, with one of our youngest Featured Artists playing the lead role of ‘Matilda' in the recent Sydney production of the mega-hit musical.  Performers from across all disciplines have also featured strongly in industry awards, including the ARIAs and Helpmann Awards, as well as the hugely popular television talent shows with ‘Spec' alumni Anja Nissen winning Channel 9's ‘The Voice' in 2014.
