Support Staff at GPS

Glenfield Park School are lucky enough to have several support staff that assist with the day to day running of our school and supporting our students in Learning for Life.

School Administrative Managers (SAMs)

At Glenfield Park School our SAM is an integral part of our School Administrative and Support Team. The SAM assists the principal in planning and maintaining school routines and are responsible for the efficient management of the school financial and administration functions. Their role also involves supervising School Administrative Officers (SAOs) and promoting training opportunities.

The School Administrative Officer (SAO)

At Glenfield Park School our SAO may be the first person to greet you when you arrive at our school. The SAO supports the principal and (SAM) to maintain school routines. Their responsibilities include, operating and maintaining classroom and office equipment, and undertaking an administrative role in the school office or reception area. At Glenfield Park School our SAO administers first aid and prescribed medications to students.

School Learning Support Officers (SLSO)

Glenfield Park School has 10 classes, with an allocated Teacher and SLSO. The SLSOs are under the supervision and direction of a teacher and assist in classroom activities, school routines, and the care and management of students with special needs.

Generally, the SLSO’s role includes assisting teachers in the classroom to:

  • Provide opportunities for students to develop personal, social, independent and living skills
  • Attend to the personal care needs of students
  • Operate audio-visual aids, duplicating, issuing learning materials and clerical duties.

Senior Psychologist Education (SPE) and School counsellor

Glenfield Park School employs a Senior Psychologist, Education (SPE) and a School Counsellor. They apply their psychological expertise to support students to achieve cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual wellbeing, as well as engaging with other agencies to assist in the implementation of mental health plans.

Gardener

Glenfield Park School is fortunate to have an onsite Gardener to maintain our grounds as well as the grounds of our neighbouring schools (Ajuga and Campbell House), consisting of 15 acres. Our Gardener’s responsibilities include monitoring the health of all plants and greenspaces, watering and feeding plants, trimming trees and shrubs, fertilising, and mowing lawns, weeding gardens, and keeping green spaces and walkways clear of debris. Our Gardener uses and maintains landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and fertilisers, while following health and safety regulations. Our high school students often start their in school work experience with our Gardener.

The General Assistant (GA)

Glenfield Park School has a GA that is employed to maintain our school grounds, and buildings. Our general assistant supports students learning by:

  • Preparing and maintaining equipment
  • Preparing materials and constructing teaching aids
  • Undertaking minor maintenance of building, plant, and equipment

Student Support Officer (SSO)

Student Support Officers (SSOs) work in schools to enhance the wellbeing and learning outcomes of students. They work closely with the school counselling service and the school’s wellbeing team. SSOs support the implementation of the school’s approach to wellbeing, helping students develop social and emotional skills through targeted strengths-based programs and strategies that build resilience, coping skills and positive relationships. They also have a pivotal role in working collaboratively with external and other government agencies in their support of students and their families.
