Learning
At Glenfield Park School, we help students grow academically and personally. Using a cognitive behavioural approach, students take part in daily programs that build social skills and positive behaviour, linked to Character Strengths and Trauma-Informed Practice.
Every student has an individual learning plan, reviewed each term to make sure they’re getting the support they need.
We teach all Key Learning Areas through integrated units, combining subjects like English, Science, History, and Creative Arts into hands-on projects. Students might research, write, illustrate, present, or even explore topics through music and dance. This approach makes learning more meaningful and fun.
From Year 7, students work towards their ROSA (Record of School Achievement) by completing life skills outcomes that prepare them for the future.
What students learn
Students can complete the mandatory curriculum by participating in one or more courses focused on Life Skills outcomes anytime during Years 7–10. To earn their ROSA (Record of School Achievement), students must meet the requirements in each Key Learning Area (KLA), which include:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Human Society and Its Environment
- Technologies (Technological and Applied Studies)
- Creative Arts
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
- Languages other than English
This approach ensures students gain the essential knowledge and skills across all areas while progressing at their own pace.
Our learning approach
At our school, we use explicit teaching, which means we clearly explain what students are learning, why it matters, and guide them step by step. Breaking new ideas into smaller parts helps students understand and succeed.
Learning at Glenfield Park School is student-centred, inclusive, and hands-on. We are committed to equity and access, supporting all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies and continually update their skills through professional development to ensure the best possible learning experience for every student.
Our learning approach includes:
- Real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- Technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- Flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- Community connections: through excursions and local programs.
