Electronic Devices at School
At Glenfield Park School, we follow the Department of Education policy regarding the use of personal electronic devices.
Students are not permitted to use any personal devices brought from home while at school. This includes (but is not limited to) mobile phones, Nintendo Switch consoles, laptops, iPads, and tablets.
This decision has been made in response to the increasing misuse of personal technology and the growing number of social media–related incidents affecting student wellbeing during school hours.
Our Approach
We recognise the educational value that digital devices and online services can provide when used appropriately. However, we also acknowledge the potential risks and the need to support students in developing safe, respectful, and responsible online behaviours.
To assist families and students:
- The school does not provide storage for personal devices. However, recognising that some students travel long distances and may use devices while commuting, students may hand in their devices each morning for safe storage.
- Upon arrival, students will receive an individually labelled plastic sleeve to store their device, which will be kept securely in the school office.
- Devices will be returned to students as they enter their vehicles at the end of the school day.
Students who have an individualised plan that allows music for self-regulation will continue to have access to school-provided and monitored devices.
This procedure ensures a consistent and safe approach to the responsible use of technology and outlines the shared responsibilities of students, staff, and families.
Inappropriate Use
If a student is seen using their personal device during the school day, a staff member will request that it be handed in for storage.
If the student refuses, parents or carers will be contacted to collect the device immediately.
Any inappropriate or unsafe use of technology—either at school or outside school where a clear connection to the school exists—will be managed under:
- The school’s Behaviour Management Plan and Wellbeing Procedures
- Relevant Department of Education policies, and
- Any statutory or regulatory obligations.
